10 Tips for Planning the Perfect Proposal

Hi, there! You’re here because you’ve reached the point in your relationship where you know you’ve found “The One.” Congratulations! These are exciting times, and the butterflies in your stomach feel like they are beating each other up! I get it! You’re about to begin a new chapter that will change the rest of your life (for the better); it’s somewhat nerve-wracking! But it doesn’t have to be if you have a plan, and I’m here to help! Here are 10 tips for planning the perfect proposal for your sweetheart!

Know Your Partner

Before we go too deep into the process, you need to be fully aware of who your partner is. Are they the social butterfly that likes to be the center of attention? (Proposing in a private setting with just the two of you may not meet their desires or secret expectations of a proposal) Or are they more of an introverted type that doesn’t mind staying in for a quiet evening? (Still think the Jumbo-Tron in Times Square is a good idea?)

Pick a Day Your Partner Will Least Suspect

Choose a day where the focus would most likely NOT be on them. Like your own birthday, for example. They’ll never see that one coming!

Location, Location, Location…

Without being too obvious, it would be a good idea to choose a location that has some sentimental value to you both. The place where you first met or went on your first date, or even where you realized you fell in love.

Also, consider the time of the day as it may be a popular area with a lot of foot traffic. Which, in some cases, would be undesirable.

Oh, and one more thing… Please don’t propose at someone else’s special event. It is in poor taste.

Practice in the Mirror

Listen, I’m not saying you have to prepare a whole speech. But it would be nice to know what you’d like to say and how you’d like to say it. Your nerves will most likely be at the forefront, but having an idea will ease some of that tension. You’ve Got This!

Don’t Make This Weird

[Hopefully], You are about to propose to someone who knows you like the back of their hand. With that said, when you start behaving like something is up, “they’re gonna know.” Don’t make this weird.

Don’t Tell Everyone

Having someone you trust knows what you plan to do is excellent. Your pal may assist with orchestrating the plan and helping make things run more smoothly. However, please make sure they keep the intel air-tight! There’s nothing worse than a well-thought-out surprise ruined by someone who can’t hold water. Your loved one will also want to share the news with friends and family. Can you imagine how things fizzle after the person they’re sharing the information with says, “Yeah, I knew that was going to happen; I just couldn’t say anything.” #Awkward.

Friends and Family

Should you include friends and family on this occasion, might I suggest planning an activity afterward? Like a dinner! People like to eat, drink and be merry! It’s a Celebration!

Planning the Perfect Proposal

We all know that there is no such thing as “perfect.” And that’s okay! Though it is wise to have a plan, rest assured that there is a good chance of things not going according to plan.

Hire A Photographer

You’ll most likely be shocked as this ordeal happens, so how can you be expected to retell your proposal accurately? Trust me; you will not regret it! Hire a Photographer (Ahem, Me)! What better way to recall one of the best memories of your life than to look at some beautiful, candid photographs to look back on?

Pop Champagne!

Lastly, now that the hard is over and “YES!” was the response, you’ll probably need a drink. Bring a bottle of bubbly, and a couple of glasses, and toast to a beautiful new beginning!
